Richland is a city situated within the southeastern part of Washington State within the county of Bento, USA. It is situated at the confluence of the Yakima and Columbia Rivers. Richland's population was around 48,058 based on the census of the year 2010. The city of Richland forms among the Tri-Cities of Washington State, along with the nearby cities of Pasco and Kennewick. The Washington State Office of Financial Management placed Richland's population at roughly 49,090 as of April 1, 2011. The city of Richland is home to the Hanford nuclear site.

For centuries, the village of Chemna was situated at the mouth of the Yakima River. The existing site of that village is currently known as Columbia Point. The village Wanapum Yakama Indians and the Walla Walla Indians harvested the salmon runs entering the Yakima River. On the 17th of October, 1805, Captain William Clark of the Lewis and Clark Expedition visited the mouth of the Yakima River. Richland grew to become a center of production and research of nuclear energy and related technology after the second World War ended.

The city of Richland has been the home of the PNNL or also known as Pacific Northwest National Laboratory ever since 1965. The Richland technology center has seen a lot of high technology business and expert consultants emerge within the region. One of the 2 Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory sites is located immediately north of the city.

Richland has many famous employers, including Bechtel National Inc., who has a Bechtel National Inc.; Washington Closure, a company who provides waste management and cleanup efforts. They also have decontamination and demolition of facilities along the Columbia River. Battelle Memorial Institute is operating PNNL and Washington River Protection Solutions are controlling different operations of the nuclear waste tank farms.

The U.S. Department of Energy is responsible for operating the Hanford Site, CH2M Hill Plateau Remediation Company handles the D&D of facilities on the site's Central Plateau. Duratek Federal Services Inc. provides services to the USA government and nuclear power at a neighboring reactor facility is generated by Energy Northwest. The business Areva creates nuclear fuel and Lockheed Martin Services Inc. provides technology services.

The Richland region and Tri-Cities area is an essential agriculture center, a great region along the Columbia Basin which grows fantastic produce. ConAgra/Lamb-Weston is an essential food processor within the city. They process many kinds of food and a lot of potatoes.

Among the main businesses in the area has been wine production in the lower Columbia Basin. Richland is within the center of a large viticulture area that makes internationally recognized wines within 4 major Washington appellations. Richland serves as a perfect center for wine tours.

The Columbia Valley appellation which surrounds Richland is roughly 7,000 hectares and is completely devoted to growing grapes. The Walla Walla Valley appellation to the east supports almost 500 hectares of wine grapes, whilst the 5,000 hectare Yakima Valley appellation produces grapes toward the west of Richland. Red Mountain is situated to the immediate west and has 350 hectares plated to grapes. They are the proud producers of world class wines and numerous blends are consistent award winning Cabernet Sauvignons from the state's first quarter century of fine winemaking. Many of these wine producers only utilize fruit harvested from the Red Mountain vineyards close to the city.
