 Lift Truck Chain Grand Forks - The city of Grand Forks, North Dakota has a population of roughly 53,000 and is the county seat of Grand Forks County. Greater Grand Forks, also called The Grand Cities, consists of the City of Grand Forks and the twin city of East Grand Forks, within the State of Minnesota. The Grand Forks, ND-MN Metropolitan Statistical Area has a population of almost 100,000.
The City of Grand Forks is situated in the Red River Valley on the Red River banks. This is a low-lying area susceptible to flooding. In the year 1997, a great flood struck the region, the most severe since the year 1826. The early French fur traders named the township Les Grandes Fourches. It was established at the fork of the Red Lake River and the Red River by a steamboat captain, Alexander Griggs, and incorporated in the year 1881. Agriculture rapidly flourished within the fertile valley soil.
The city is dependent upon industries such as defense, health care, manufacturing, food processing, scientific research and higher education. Within Grand Forks, no specific sector dominates the economy. Altru Health System is the city's largest private employer. The University of North Dakota, in downtown Grand Forks, is a main center of higher education, the oldest such institution within the State of North Dakota, and the biggest employer within the metro area. A big percentage of Grand Forks area jobs are provided by state and federal government employers. West of the city is Grand Forks Air Force Base, which provides many jobs for both enlisted personnel and civilian workers. The City of Grand Forks is accessed by Grand Forks International Airport and Grand Forks Air Force Base.
Significant manufacturing businesses located in Grand Forks make aircrafts and wind turbines, among other products. Food processing businesses comprise J. R. Simplot Company. The North Dakota Mill and Elevator is a state-owned flour mill and is the largest within the nation. There are major call centers within the city. Companies owned by the locals include Alerus Financial, Home of Economy and Hugo's supermarkets.
The city has lots of fine cultural and sports places, like Chester Fritz Auditorium, Alerus Center and Ralph Engelstad Arena. The North Dakota Museum of Art is among numerous art galleries.
