Lift Truck Chain Edmond

Lift Truck Chain Edmond - The city of Edmond, Oklahoma is located in the central portion of the state. It is part of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area, situated within Oklahoma County. It is the 6th biggest city in Oklahoma State.

The city borders Oklahoma city along its northern border. The downtown core of Oklahoma City can be reached through Interstate 35 and US Route 77. Citylink Edmond bus service provides public transportation to Oklahoma City.

The site was selected as a water and coaling station for steam engines on the Santa Fe rail line. The Santa Fe Railroad extended into Indian Territory during the year 1887. The site was considered perfect due to its high elevation, that allowed trains to easily accelerate downhill when departing the station in either direction. The station was named after Edmond Burdick, the freight agent. When early inhabitants arrived, they decided to name the town Edmond. At present the BNSF freight line runs through the same course that the old Santa Fe rail used to take.

In the great Oklahoma land run in 1889, the town of Edmond was able to blossom around the homesteads staked around the Santa Fe station. The population of the city was roughly 394, by 1890. A syndicate known as the Seminole Town and Development Company prepared the original planning map for Edmond and named the streets after employees and other men associated with the Santa Fe Railroad and the town syndicate. The first mayor and city officers were elected during May 1889.

During August the year 1986, the city of Edmond made national news, when it was the site of the post office massacre. Now, outside the U.S. Post Office within downtown Edmond is a memorial to the victims of a tragic event. An ex-postal worker named Patrick Sherrill wounded 6 people and killed 14. The crime triggered a rash of postal employee murder-suicides throughout the nation.

Shannon Miller, the Olympic gymnast with 7 medals during 1992 and the year 1996 Olympic Games is from the city of Edmond. Shannon Miller is the nation's most decorated Olympic gymnast. The Shannon Miller Parkway has been named to honor her. It is situated on Interstate 35 from the Memorial Road exit to the Logan/Oklahoma County line.
