 Lift Truck Chain Pueblo - Pueblo (population 106,595) is a Home Rule Municipality within the state of Colorado. It serves as the county seat of Pueblo County. Pueblo is located at the confluence of the Arkansas River and Fountain Creek. The city of Pueblo is an important part of the Front Range Urban Corridor and the main city of the Pueblo Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city of Denver lies 166 km towards the north of Pueblo.
The city of Pueblo is situated within the semi-arid desert area referred to as the "banana belt". Annual precipitation within the region averages only 305 mm. The city of Pueblo experiences less snowfall than other major cities in Colorado State.
Due to the city's major steel-producing sector, the city of Pueblo has been named the "Steel City". The steel sector within the city of Pueblo is the biggest in the country.
In the mid-19th century, the name of the town was "Fort Pueblo." The Colorado Gold Rush in 1859, led to the settlement of four towns, which ultimately amalgamated to become the City of Pueblo. Pueblo was the site of one of the most catastrophic floods in the nation's history. The Great Flood of the year 1912 is one of the state's most well known natural disasters. Thousands of people died and Pueblo sustained millions of dollars in damage. The Historic Arkansas River Project (HARP) features displays and information regarding the Pueblo Flood.
In the last century, steel was a major resource, helping to build Pueblo's infrastructure around steel production. In an effort to diversify its economy, Pueblo has created an industrial park and has worked towards redeveloping its downtown core. Lots of electronics and aviation companies are now situated here. The major employment sectors in Pueblo are education, government, healthcare, construction and the hospitality and leisure. Service jobs provide more than 80 percent of work. Numerous people are still employed in steel fabrication. Newer sources of employment include telemarketing call centers, manufacturing, electronics and aviation businesses. Many Pueblo residents commute to the Colorado Springs region to work.
Parkview Medical Center, St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center, and the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo are the largest healthcare employers within Pueblo. Other major employers consist of Pueblo School System, Pueblo County, Trane, Convergys Corporation, Rocky Mountain Steel Mills and Walmart.
