Along with his partners, Fletcher staked out four square miles east of Denver. The township and the state of Colorado itself struggled through hard times after the Silver Crash that happened in the year 1893.

After hard economic times fell on the area, Fletcher decided to flee the town and unfortunately, the community was left with a huge water debt. In 1907, the inhabitants of the city chose to rename the township Aurora. The name was chosen after one of the subdivisions within the township. Slowly, the site began to grow behind Denver until it became the fastest growing city in the United States during the late 70s and early part of the 1980s.
