About 30,000 of the city's non-agricultural jobs are due to county, state and local government jobs, based on 2007 statistics. About 17,000 to 18,000 jobs in the City of Springfield are provided by transportation and utilities, healthcare and the trade industries. Memorial Health Systems was the biggest private sector employer in the year 2002. That year, approximately 3400 individuals worked for that company.
