The highway US 27 gives access to Lake Okeechobee and to several areas within the state.

Famous attractions consist of The Broward Center for the Performing Arts, The Broward Museum of Discovery & Science, The IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame and Museum in Dania Beach, The Calder Race Course, The Pembroke Pines Theater of the Performing Arts, The South Broward ballet theater and The Pembroke Pines Historical Museum. A wetland park is planned for US 27 and Sheridan Street. In nearby Fort Lauderdale are The Miami-Hollywood Motorsports Park, The Museum of Art and The International Swimming Hall of Fame.
The economy of Pembroke Pines is quite similar to that of most other South Florida cities that are heavily dependent upon tourism. The median family income within Pembroke Pines was $69,267 in 2005, higher than both the Florida average ($50,465) and the national average ($55,832). Since the year 1992, the city's subdivisions have expanded significantly west of Interstate 75, within West Pines. This development has occurred after Hurricane Andrew.
