 Lift Truck Chain Lubbock - The city of Lubbock is located in northwest Texas, on the South Plains. Lubbock City has an estimated population of 215,000. The Texas Panhandle is located north of the city with the Permian Basin located to the south of Lubbock. Lubbock City is elevated above sea level at about 3,250 ft.
Lubbock is a name which came from the former Civil War Confederate and Texas Ranger, Thomas S. Lubbock. Throughout this period his brother, Francis R. Lubbock, served as the governor of Texas.
During the year 1876, the county of Lubbock was formed, although the present-day city wasn't established until 1890. The settlement of Lubbock was formed by the merging of Old Lubbock and Monterey, which were two separate settlements within the county. In the year 1891 the city was known as the county seat and the city of Lubbock was incorporated on the 16th of March, the year 1909.
The rail service was established shortly after Lubbock was incorporated. Agriculture grew along with the development of the railroads. The area shortly became the county's marketing center. For that reason they were dubbed the "Hub of the Plains."
As several more opportunities were presented to the city it continued to grow. A significant boost to the economy of the city came from the opening of Texas Technological College in 1925. The effects of the Great Depression were countered by the development of two military training bases during the second World War. The population of the city grew quickly when the war ended. All through the '40's, the growth rate was next to Albuquerque throughout the entire nation.
The worst disaster which the the city of Lubbock went through was a tornado that hit on the 11th of May,1970. It is considered among the strongest tornadoes in history and caused 26 fatalities. It resulted in over $135 million in damages across more than three square miles of the city. Together with the repairs carried out on the buildings which were damaged, they created the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center as a memorial to people who were victims of this devastating natural disaster.
The economy of Lubbock is still based largely on agriculture, with supplemental income which comes from different manufactured facilities. The economy has continued to become diversified within certain fields, that include government, retail trade, education, and health care. The agricultural business draws in approximately 22 billion dollars on an annual basis with cotton being the primary crop. Cotton is not just a commodity which is profitable. It likewise helps support other businesses, like for example compresses, grins, a denim plant, oil, cottonseed meal, lint and some processing facilities.
