 Lift Truck Chain Aurora - Lift Truck Chain Aurora - The city of Aurora is the 112th largest US city and the 2nd biggest within the state of Illinois. The city serves as a suburb for the city of Chicago and is located some 64 km or 40 miles west of "the Loop." According to records, in the year 2010 the population was 197,899. Aurora was first founded in the county of Kane. Over the last 50 years, the city limits have greatly expanded and now they spill over into the Counties of Kendall, Will and DuPage. The county of Kendall was considered to be the fastest growing county within the USA in the year 2010.
The original settlement of Aurora was established by Joseph and Samuel McCarty during the year 1837, and was referred to as McCarty Mills. As soon as it amalgamated with the neighboring municipality of West Aurora in the year 1857, the two communities merged as one. Nicknamed the "City of Lights," the city of Aurora became the very first city in the United States to make use of electric lights during the year 1881 for lighting all of the streets in the city.
During a part of the early 1900s, the city of Aurora was home to 6 different car businesses. Eventually, these automobile companies eventually folded. A strong part of the economy of the city has been manufacturing and this was an important business in years of the Depression and both World Wars. In the 1970s and 1980s, several factories began closing, forcing the city to explore alternate sources of income.
The downtown core area of the city welcomed a riverboat casino helping to bring development surrounding the nearby residential communities, whilst seeing the casino flourish too. The dockside gaming facility known as Hollywood Casino features 1200 gaming options within a 53,000 square foot building. As its namesake, the casino houses the original memorabilia from movies like for instance The FBI Story, Wayne's World Misery, The Blues Brothers, The Natural and Titanic among others.
The downtown core of Aurora is situated on the picturesque Fox River. A large-scale redevelopment plan was initiated in 2011 to renovate the underdeveloped Stolp Island business district. Along the Fox River there are plans to construct approximately 6000 housing units.
Amongst the most impressive architectural collections in the American Midwest can be found in the city. Aurora features buildings by Bruce Goff, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Frank Lloyd Wright and George Grant Elmslie.
Located at the edge of Illinois City's Technology and Research Corridor. Aurora shares the area's long standing history of manufacturing, comprising some of the city's major manufacturers, like: Barber Greene Ltd, Lyon Workspace Products, the Chicago Corset Company, the Aurora Silverplate Manufacturing Company, Western Wheeled Scraper Works who later became Austin-Western Inc, Caterpillar Inc., National Metalwares, Allsteel Metals and the Aurora Brewing Company. The most popular employer and industry was the Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroad, this eventually became Burlington Northern and they held their headquarters within Aurora.
