 Lift Truck Chain Elizabeth - Elizabeth is a city situated within Union County, New Jersey, USA. The city had a population of 124,969 as of the 2010 Census. The city of Elizabeth is New Jersey's 4th largest city by population standards. From the 2000 Census population of roughly 120,600 there was an increase of about 4,400 people or approximately 3.7% by the year 2010.
Popular Science Magazine named Elizabeth among the "50 Greenest Cities in the USA" during the year 2008. It was the only New Jersey city to be selected.
The community was originally called "Elizabethtown," when it was originally settled in 1664 by its English inhabitants. This name was chosen in honor of the wife of Sir George Carteret, a famous colonial proprietor. Elizabeth was the first capital of the state of New jersey. The name officially changed to become the city of Elizabeth during 1855 upon its incorporation.
Singer Sewing Machine Company was the very first major business within the region and they hired thousands of people. The city has seen a substantial growth in its transportation facilities ever since World War II. The Port Newark-Elizabeth Marine Terminal, usually called Port Elizabeth, has become the main container ship facility serving North America's northeastern quadrant. Furthermore, it is among the globe's busiest ports.
Within Midtown Elizabeth, there are more than a dozen historical sites and landmarks, and in recent years, the Elizabeth Public Library has gone through significant upgrades. The building was in fact a gift from Andrew Carnegie, dating back to the start of the 20th century. Boxwood Hall is another historic place. This was the former home of Jonathan Dayton, the youngest individual to sign the Constitution as well as the home of the President of the Continental Congress, Elias Boudinot. One of the biggest and oldest operating theatres within the state is the historic Ritz Theatre. This fantastic building dates back to the year 1926 and has much history attached.
Referred to as the Belcher Ogden Mansion, the former house of Royal Governor Jonathan Belcher is situated close by. It represents the last of the original Royal Governor's mansions in the country. There are numerous parades and yearly festivals that celebrate the ethnic diversity of the city of Elizabeth. For instance, the Elizabeth Latin Carnival takes place at the beginning of September each year and brings hundreds of thousands of visitors. Other popular events include Portugal day, the Pride day in the Port, Julyfest and Unity Day. The annual Tour De Elizabeth is held each and every Sunday before Memorial Day and it is a bike tour of the whole city of Elizabeth.
Part of the city of Elizabeth extends into the extremely busy Newark Liberty International Airport. The city of Elizabeth also features the famous Little Jimmy's Italian Ices since the year 1932, Jersey Gardens outlet mall, Loews Theatre and the Elizabeth Center. All of these ventures bring millions in profits each year.
The city of Elizabeth, together with Linden, is home to the Bayway Refinery. This is a ConocoPhillips refining facility which produces about 37,000m3 or 230,000 barrels on a daily basis, supplying petroleum based products to the New York/New Jersey regions.
