Lift Truck Chain Chesapeake

Lift Truck Chain Chesapeake - The city of Chesapeake, Virginia is situated in the South Hampton Roads part of the Hampton Roads metropolitan area. The city was formed after a political consolidation during 1963 of the former County of Norfolk. The county had been around since the year 1691, when it was known as South Norfolk City. As measured by land area, Chesapeake is the 2nd largest city by land area within the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The city is part of a diverse urban oasis, with many miles of protected farmland, wetlands and the Great Dismal Swamp. Chesapeake is situated on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. Chesapeake extends all the way from the harbor section of Hampton Roads, to its rural border together with North Carolina and to the neighboring cities of Portsmouth and Norfolk. The city of Chesapeake has miles of waterfront commercial, industrial and residential property.

During 1963, the city of Chesapeake was formed out of the amalgamation of South Norfolk City and Norfolk County. The area's history however, dates as far back as the early 1600s when the area was initially settled. During the year 1775, the historic Battle of Great Bridge occurred. This marked an early Revolutionary War victory for American troops over the forces of Lord Dunmore, the British Royal governor. Work started on the Great Dismal Swamp Canal in 1793. This canal opened up during 1805. It eventually went through difficulties and is presently a part of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway.

There is a lot to experience and see when going to the Hampton Roads metro area. The city of Chesapeake is situated at the hub of the activity. Chesapeake is situated 20 minutes from the ocean, just 15 minutes from Norfolk and 40 minutes from Colonial Williamsburg. Some of the major attractions in Chesapeake consist of the historic waterway linking the Chesapeake Bay to North Carolina's sounds which is called the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway; Chesapeake City Park, a 75-acre site which houses the Chesapeake Skate Park and holds the yearly Chesapeake Jubilee and Symphony Under the Stars.

The Chesapeake Arboretum is one more attraction consisting of 48-acres of trail systems, native plants and trees that meander through a mature hardwood forest. This arboretum is situated within an 18th century farmhouse also. The Chesapeake Planetarium was the first planetarium constructed by a public school system within Virginia State. The Dismal Swamp Canal Trail comprises an 8.5 mile long multipurpose trail that accommodates bicyclists, walkers, joggers, horse owners and boat owners. Deep Creek Lock Park is another great day trip with foot trails and pedestrian bridges to negotiate over heavily wooded sections.

Another site to take in is the Chesapeake Veterans' Memorial which commerates the sacrifice and service of the Chesapeake citizens who are serving in the military or who have served in any war before. The Great Bridge Lock Park is a different 19-acre place featuring a huge play area, picnic shelters, a foot trail, a 2-lane boat ramp and extensive fishing and crabbing areas. A renovated contemporary art gallery that features both traveling and local exhibits called Portlock Galleries at SoNo is one more fantastic location to visit.
