Lift Truck Chain Cambridge

Lift Truck Chain Cambridge - Lift Truck Chain Cambridge - Cambridge is a city situated in Middlesex County, Massachusetts in the United States. It is located within the Greater Boston Area. The city of Cambridge was named in honor of the University of Cambridge within England, that was a vital center of the Puritan theology which was embraced by the town's founding citizens. A resident of Cambridge is affectionately referred to as a "Cantabrigian."

Two of the world's most well-known universities, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University are situated within the city of Cambridge. In the year 2010, the population of the city was 105,162 based on the U.S. Census, making it the 5th most densely inhabited city in the state of Massachusetts behind Worcester, Boston, Springfield and Lowell. Lowell is one county seat of Middlesex County and Cambridge City is the other.

The region was settled during the year 1630 by a group of Puritan settlers from England. Initially, the region was named "Newtowne." Harvard College, established facilities during 1636, which prompted the move to a new and more appropriate name. "Cambridge" was chosen as the formal name because of the familiarity that many of the settlers had with Cambridge University in England. The township was incorporated in 1636 and in the year 1846 it became a city when the original town of Old Cambridge amalgamated with two villages Cambridge Port and East Cambridge.

The city had a major industrial focus in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, on industries like for instance glass and furniture businesses. Now, the emphasis of the economy has shifted to a technology-based economy that consists of economies in software, biotechnology research and electronics. Now, Cambridge City is a very vibrant college-influenced community which enjoys a strong mix of culture, social diversity, technological innovation and intellectual vitality.

The city's largest employers now are the educational institutions. Both MIT and Harvard combined hire around 20,000 people. The city is also home to several legendary technology firms like Bolt, Akamai, Analog Devices Beranek and Newman or BBN Technologies which is presently a part of Raytheon, Thinking Machines, Polaroid, Symbolics General Radio or GenRad and the Lotus Development Corporation who are currently a part of IBM.

During the years, most of these tech businesses have either moved away and relocated because of growth or declined and closed their companies. Like for example, in the year 1996, Arthur D. Little, Lotus and Polaroid were all top employers with over 1000 employees within the city of Cambridge. In a few years they declined or disappeared. By the year 2005, Harvard, MIT and biotechnology and health care businesses like Novartis, Genzyme, Biogen and Idec dominated the economy of the city. There are biotechnology businesses situated around Kendall Square and East Cambridge. Decades ago these locations were the center for manufacturing enterprises within the city of Cambridge. The University Park at MIT is also another new development situated within another previous manufacturing region.

Google, IBM Research and Microsoft Research all maintain offices within Cambridge. The video game developer Harmonix Music Systems is likewise based in Central Square. Furthermore, the city is the New England headquarters for Time Warner Cable and Miramax Films.
