The city limits stretch into the counties of San Patricio, Aransas and Kleberg. It is also the principle city of three county MSA whose population, during the year 2008, was estimated to be 416,000, with roughly 305,000 being from the city of Corpus Christi. This makes it the 8th largest city in Texas.
The literal translation in Spanish of the name "Corpus Christi" which means "Body of Christ." In honor of the Blessed Sacrament, the city was first granted by the Spanish. In most literature that promotes tourism for the city, it is called The Sparkling City by the bay.
The city of Corpus Christi is home to the sixth largest port within the nation. The Naval Air Station Corpus Christi and Corpus Christi International Airport are likewise located within the city.
The Corpus Christi Convention and Visitors Bureau is responsible for the organization of visitor and tourism information which supports the cities top attractions, consisting of the USS Lexington floating Museum and the Texas State Aquarium.

Every year the city of Corpus Christi celebrates the Buccaneer Days Carnival.
The attractions throughout the city of Corpus Christi help to tempt lots of visitors to the area. There are miles of wonderful beaches together with cool sea breezes, culturally diverse museum and arts district, waterfront restaurants, as well as several shopping centers.
