Articulated Boom Lift Chain

A boom truck is often recognized by the cable and telephone business vans that have the elongated arm folded over their roofs. Typically, a bucket-like apparatus sits at the extension of extendable arms. Normally called a cherry picker, or an aerial boom truck, a bucket vehicle has an extendable boom installed on the roof or bed. It can transport workers to the peak of a telephone or utility pole. Bucket boom vehicles have a lifting capacity of approximately 350 lbs to 1500 lbs or 158 kg to 680 kg plus they are able of extending the bucket up to 34 feet or to around 10 meters into the air.

Heavy equipment boom vehicles or construction boom vehicles may have a hoist attached to the back. These cranes known as knuckle booms might be little and compact or be of the trolley boom type, where the crane is able to extend the length of the vehicle bed. Crane boom trucks possess a hauling capacity between 10 to 50 tons or about 9 to 45 metric tons.

A different adaptation of boom truck is the concrete boom, which have a tube with a nozzle at the end of the vehicle to pump concrete and other materials. The areas where these materials have to be deposited is commonly inaccessible to the vehicle or is found at a considerable height, consequently, the boom of a bigger concrete boom vehicle may well be extended 230 feet or just about 71 meters. The vehicle then pumps the material through the boom completely depositing it into the space where it is needed.

Fire departments are equipped with a lengthy bucket boom used to raise firefighters to the high floors of a building. Once in place, this boom allows them to direct water onto flames or to rescue trapped victims. Many of the older hook and ladder lift trucks have been displaced with modern boom vehicles.

Self propelled booms are relatively comparable to lift trucks. These little boom vehicles can hoist workers to lofty storage space or to the ceiling of large warehouses and storage facilities. They are more stable and as a result far safer than using extension ladders for the similar application.
