It is the third biggest after Calgary and Edmonton, and the 4th biggest in population following Red Deer, Calgary and Edmonton. Called the "Cultural Capital of Canada" for the 2004 to 2005 seasons, Lethbridge city is home to events and venues used for marketing the arts. The Allied Arts Council of Lethbridge is the largest organization that is devoted to preserving the local arts. Southern Alberta Art Gallery houses contemporary and modern pieces of art; the Bowman Arts Centre has three galleries, and the University of Lethbridge Art gallery has contemporary exhibitions which include works from its many Americans, Canadians and European art collections. Music is also an essential part of the city's culture, and the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra has been existing since 1960. Its spin-off music groups are the Southern Alberta Chamber Orchestra and Lethbridge Musical Theatre. A part of University of Lethbridge's choir is Vox Musica, whilst the New West Theatre is the university's theatre division. The Genevieve E. Yates Memorial Centre has two theatres: Yates Theatre and the 180-seat black box Sterndale Bennet Theatre.

There are many historical tourist attractions in the city of Lethbridge. The Lethbridge Viaduct, that is a steel tressle bridge also called the High Level Bridge, is among the most popular tourist attractions. There is a commemoration for the last battle between the Nations of the Blackfoot and the Cree that happened in 1870. This particular battle is honored at the Indian Battle Park, within the coulees of the Oldman River. Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden (south of Lethbridge) was opened in the year 1967 to celebrate the centennial event that was attended by Japan's Prince and Princess Takamatsu. Galt Museum and Archives is considered to be the largest museum in the Lethbridge area, and its building was previously used as a hospital during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Other well-known structures comprise the water tower and the Alberta Terminals grain elevators.

Nearly all of the jobs based within the city of Lethbridge is based in the sector of services and trades, with a larger emphasis on finance/insurance, food processing, real estate, transportation, construction, and public sector services. There are various national companies that have their headquarters in Lethbridge. They comprise Taco Time Canada, the Canadian Freightways, H&R Transport and Minute Muffler. During 2006, the Economic Development Lethbridge had a joint partnership along with Alberta SouthWest Regional Alliance and SouthGrow Regional Initiative so as to create the Southern Alberta Alternative Energy Partnership. Their amalgamation promotes alternative energy, such as biofuel, solar power, and wind power. During 2007, it was ranked as fourth among Canadian economic development groups for "volume of capital investment and job creation" by Site Selection magazine, and during 2007-2008, it won first place at the Economic Developers Association of Canada Awards.
