 Lift Truck Chain Thornton - The city of Thornton is situated in the state of Colorado, United States and is a member of both the Adams and Weld counties. It is a suburb of the Denver-Aurora-Broomfield, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. About 10 miles southwest of the city of Thornton lies the capital of the state, the city of Denver. The population was recorded by the United States Census Bureau as being 118,772 on the 1st of April, 2010. This is around 44% increase from the year 2000 census, where the population was around 82,380. Thornton is the 6th most populated city in Colorado and the 213th most populated city in the country.
Until 1953, Thornton was nothing more than farmland. Sam Hoffman changed that when he bought a piece of land approximately seven miles north of Denver and laid out a completely planned community. It was the first of its kind within Adams County, as well as the very first which provided complete municipal services off a single tax levy. The name of the city was chosen to honor Former Colorado Governor Dan Thornton.
To be able to help guide the development of the new community, the Thornton community Association (TCA) was formed. By 1955, over 5,500 individuals lived in Thornton in approximately 1,200 houses. In the year 1956 Thornton was incorporated, due largely in part to the TCA. The first mayor of the city of Thornton was G. Leary. Brian Thornton, a City Council candidate, is not related to the Governor.
Located all over the city are 80 parks covering 2,000 acres of land. There are also many biking and running trails all over Thornton. Combined together they stretch over 80 miles. There are several recreational complexes in the city of Thornton, like for instance the Margaret Carpenter Recreation Center and the Thornton Community Center. There are likewise three main golf courses within Thornton: Thorncreek Golf Course, Heritage Todd Creek Golf Club, and Riverdale Knolls Golf Course.
There are many historic locations that are located in the nearby Denver, like for example the Colorado Governor's Mansion, the Denver Mint and the Colorado State Capitol. There is also the Forney Museum of Transportation, which showcases an assortment of antique automobiles, carriages, trains and bicycles. Some of the other nearby attractions include Park Hill Golf Park, Denver Zoo and Grasmer Lake and Holly Park. In September, Thornton hosts the Harvest Fest and in December, the Winterfest.
