The city of Flint soon became known as "Vehicle City," since it became the biggest carriage-making center in the globe. Flint was in the forefront of the new auto business when horse-drawn carriages gave way to the arrival of cars.

General Motors Corporation was founded by William C. Durant during the year 1908. The motor vehicle manufacturing and assembly soon prospered into a big industry.
