Lift Truck Chain Hillsboro - Hillsboro is a city in Oregon State. Situated in Washington County and part of the Portland metropolitan area, Hillsboro has a population of around 91,600. Numerous high-technology corporations make up what is called in the area as the Silicon Forest.
The Tualatin Valley was first occupied by the Kalapuya's Atfalati tribe for thousands of years. The European-American settlers liked the region as it boasted a moderate weather, abundant fishing, hunting and agricultural opportunities. A village was established by the year 1842. It was named to honor David Hill, an Oregon politician.
The settler economy thrived thanks to riverboat transportation on the Tualatin River and the railroad, which came through during the early 1870s. An interurban electric railway was built in the early part of the 1900s. These kinds of transportation, comprising highways, pushed the local population to roughly 2,000 by the year 1910 and approximately 5,000 by the year 1950.
The city of Hillsboro has developed a strong high-tech industry, beginning in the 1980s. Other key economic sectors include retail sales, agriculture and health care. The area has production of grapes and lots of wineries. Manufacturing is the top employment sector with almost a quarter of the labor force hired in various manufacturing operations. 68 percent of personnel commute to work, with an average commute time of 24 minutes (one way).
As the center of Oregon's Silicon Forest, Hillsboro is home to companies like Intel, which has quite a few campuses, the largest of which are Ronler Acres, hawthorn Farm and Jones farm. The company employs roughly 16,000 local people. Other companies operating within the city of Hillsboro include Credence Systems, Epson, Yahoo!, Synopsys and Sun Microsystems High-End Operations. Corporate head office for FEI Company, TriQuint Semiconductor, Planar Systems, Lattice semiconductor and RadiSys are located here. The city is home is home to Pacific University's Health Professions Campus.
The recreational facilities in Hillsboro consist of the Hillsboro Stadium and many parks. There are also nine sites in Hillsboro listed by the National Register of Historic Places (or also known as NRHP). The city is served by the Hillsboro Airport, public buses and light rail transit.
