Lift Truck Chain Independence - Independence, Missouri is the states 4th largest city by population. It is situated in two counties, Jackson and Clay and is considered to be part of the larger Kansas City Metropolitan Area. Independence had a total population of 116,830 based on the 2010 Census. Independence is the county seat of Jackson County. As it was among the departure points of the Santa Fe and Oregon and California trails, it is called the "Queen City of the Trails."

The original residents of the region were the Missouri and Osage Indians. Much later on, Spanish settlers and for a short time French settlers lived within the region. The city of Independence became a part of the United States during 1803 with the Louisiana Purchase. During the year 1804, Lewis and Clark recorded that they stopped there in their journals and that they picked wild apples, plums and raspberries at a place which would later be a part of Independence.

On the 29th of March, the year 1827, Independence City was established. It soon grew into popular frontier township and was the farthest point westward on the Missouri River where steamboats or cargo vessels could travel. The vessels could get through this area because of the convergence of the Missouri River with the Kansas River. The rivers meet around six miles west of town, close to the current of the Kansas-Missouri border. Independence soon became a jumping off point for the newly emerging fur business. Independence accommodated both adventurers and merchants who were starting their westward trek along the Santa Fe Trail.

Independence played an important part in the nation's history which has been reflected in its gorgeously restored mansions. The Vaile Mansion for example was constructed in the year 1881 by Harvey Merrick Vaile, a local entrepreneur. This grand home represents among the best examples of Second-Empire Victorian architecture in the United States. In the year 1855, the Bingham-Waggoner Estate was constructed. This was once the home of George C. Bingham, a famous Civil War artist. The Marshal's Home & Museum is located in a jailhouse that was built in 1859. This particular jailhouse was once home to the brother of Jessie James, Frank James.

The Truman Home is another well-known home in Independence. It has a stylish simplicity and offers a glimpse into the personal life of the 33rd President of the United States. Video and audio programs are likewise featured in the Truman Presidential Museum and Library, as well as numerous artifacts celebrating his life pre and post presidency, as well as during his campaign.

Independence is the head office of the Community of Christ. This is the 2nd biggest denomination in the Latter Day Saint movement. The church maintains a large auditorium as well as several other buildings and likewise a temple in Independence. The Community of Christ Temple is located directly across the street from the original Temple Lot which was designed in 1830 by Joseph Smith.
