The forklift is a material handling equipment utilized to lift and transport loads from one place to another. Each part of a forklift has a particular function. Various components could be utilized to move the load either vertically or horizontally.

Mast
The parts utilized to lift and lower the load is referred to as the forklift mast. There are different types of masts for raising loads to various heights: triplex, quad, simplex and duplex.

Power Supply
Forklifts have four different ways of being powered: gas, electric, diesel and propane. The battery is located in the cab under the seat. The propane tank is on the back of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is beneath the back of the truck.

Cab
Situated in the middle of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the informational gauges and controls. The steering wheel, gas pedal, lifting controls, tilting controls and brake are all located inside the cab.

Frame
Carrying all the largest forklift parts is the frame of the truck. This includes the counterweights situated at the back that prevents the truck from tipping over when loaded. The frame includes the overhead guard which protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the driveshaft, axles and wheels.
